About The Foundation
Scientific research points to the fact that a significant amount of learning occurs in the womb, as early as week 4 and subsequently into the early learning years (ages 1 to 6). However, the poorer segments of society, know little about this and most importantly, have neither the financial resources nor the foresight to make this their priority. They are battling other more basic challenges, like putting food on the table, etc.

The fact is, education, be it academic, social, or cultural, is a practical way out of the cycle of poverty. The Tamil Foundation is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit organisation committed to helping communities through research, development and publications focused on Tamil school students’ development. The Tamil Foundation undertakes activities that result in practical programmes that enrich Tamil school students.

The Tamil Foundation traces its beginnings to July 14, 1990 when a number of professionals came together, discussed and decided to cooperate with each other to help selected Tamil schools in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. Almost 13 years later, on February 14, 2003, the Foundation was formally registered.
