| What We Do |
We organise various projects that cover important subjects like science, math, and proficiency in English and Bahasa Malaysia (written, spoken, reading and understanding). These projects happen all year round and are designed to open the minds of the children and develop a love for learning and passion for being the best that they can be. |

| Parents Assuring Students Success (PASS) |
Parents are a child’s first teacher - the home, the child’s first classroom. While school plays an important
role in a child’s world, children spend less than one-third of their lives there. As a child’s main nesting
place, its influence stretches far. Parents have the greatest impact on children during their formative years,
when study habits and attitudes take shape.
The challenge then is getting the parents back into the teaching/learning equation. For that, the parents
must be given a strong information base and shown how to use a wide variety of strategies to improve their
child’s study skills.
|
|
| In 2009, we have
embarked "Parents Assuring Students Success (PASS) programme".
PASS empowers the parents to educate their children to do
better in school. This project was initiated in 2007 and was
officially launched in 6th September 2009. We have conducted
this programme in 10 schools in a total number of 402
parents. |
|
| Aims & Objectives |
| • |
Empower parents to help their children to do better in
school and to subsequently give them a head start in
life. |
| • |
To move parents to a more central position in relation
to their children's education and not to let them remain
on the sidelines, content to let others educate and
guide their young. |
|
|
| Methodology |
PASS Manual & Modules:
The programme will use the PASS manual developed by Dr John R. Ban, and the modules and training
worksheets developed by the National Education Service, USA. The PASS programme aims to develop
parents' understanding of and skills in the following areas: |
| a. |
Enhancing attitude. |
| b. |
Providing a productive learning environment at home. |
| c. |
Teaching children how to manage their time, listen to instructions and concentrate in class. |
| d. |
Managing homework and studying a textbook. |
| e. |
Guiding children to prepare for and take tests. |
| f. |
Taking notes and organising information. |
| g. |
Enhancing memory and thinking processes. |
| h. |
Teaching reading at home. |
|
|
| Module Preparation: |
PASS programme was originally developed for parents of inner city children in Indiana, USA. As such, the
programme must be made more useful to Tamil school parents in Malaysia by translating it into Tamil and
made contextually relevant. The translation of the necessary materials will be carried out by a small team
comprising of educators and parents, who have a good understanding of the Tamil school system and its
parents. The team would also develop other supporting material needed to conduct this project. The
acquired output would be collected and reviewed by two reviewers to ensure quality and consistency.
